MEET THE SKIPPER

After spending my childhood in Russell and around the Bay of Islands, I have grown a deep connection to its watery (aquatic) surroundings. I have been always open to using different methods to explore northlands coastline, sailing yachts, motor boats, scuba equipment and surfboards are to name just a few.

My Father and his mates always had a wooden boat or two, in the backyard in various stages of production. So its no wonder I ended up as a sailor.

Having the amount of wildlife that we do here in the bay, my interest in the native flora and fauna grew with me and a stint studying environmental studies at Lincoln university deepened my interest.

Next step, travel the world! Family members convincing me that maybe I should first take the easier and safer method of planes rather than my own sail boat.

My travels to Europe, in particular, the south of France opening my eyes to opportunities in getting paid to sail.  After 7 years of sailing on super yachts and moving with the seasons from the Mediterranean to the Carribean, then the east coast of the United States to the North Pacific.

Eventually the calling of home rang true to the salty ears. One and a half years sailing on a tall ship around the Northlands coastline, allowed for the timing of my dream yacht to come up for sale. And that’s my tale!

Qualifications collected along the way are:

RYA/MCA Yacht Masters offshore
Maritime New Zealand Local launch operator
STCW 95
MNZ Radio Operator
Coastal medic

Nik (your skipper) is born in NZ & knows all the local islands.
