MEET THE SKIPPER

After spending my childhood in the Bay of Islands, I have come to grow a deep connection with this aquatic playground. I have always used different methods to explore northlands coastline. Some of my favorites include sailing yachts, motor boats, scuba equipment and surfboards.

My Father and his mates always had a few wooden boats in various stages of production in the backyard. It’s therefore no surprise that I ended up being a sailor.

Having the amount of wildlife that we do here in the bay, my interest in the native flora and fauna grew with me. After studying environmental studies at Lincoln university, it only deepened my interest.

Next step, explore abroad! My family members we’re able to convince me that maybe I should use the safer method of flight rather than sail to travel the world.

My travels to Europe, in particular the south of France opened my eyes to the opportunities in the yachting industry.  After 7 years as a chef and sailor on super yachts in the Mediterranean, Carribean, East coast of the United States and North Pacific, I decided there was no place like Russell.

Eventually the calling of home rang true to the salty ears. I spent one and a half years sailing on a tall ship around Northlands coastline. As if timing could not have been better, my dream yacht came up for sale. And that’s my tale!

Qualifications collected along the way are:

RYA/MCA Yacht Masters offshore
Maritime New Zealand Local launch operator
STCW 95
MNZ Radio Operator
Coastal medic

Nik (your skipper) is born in NZ & knows all the local islands.
